Following a recent viral video circulating across social media platforms depicting uniformed personnel of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in camouflage scooping fuel from the wreckage of a tanker involved in an accident, the Force has distanced itself from it.

According to a press release obtained by Goodness Oil and Gas News on Monday 2nd of December, 2024, the uniformed personnel in the video originates from a neighbouring francophone country whose camouflage uniforms bear a striking resemblance to the Nigeria Police’s.

NPF claimed the captured officers were speaking in French, not in any Nigerian language nor English.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Force Public Relations Office who issued the release assured that the “Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun, remains committed to upholding discipline, professionalism, and dedication to the safety and security of all Nigerians.”

He sternly warned that “Acts that compromise the reputation of the force are unequivocally unacceptable and will not be tolerated, urging all Nigerians to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it, to foster national unity and uphold the credibility of institutions working tirelessly for public safety.”

The spread of such disinformation and unverified, malicious news and contents aimed at tarnishing or discrediting the image of the Nigeria Police Force is irrational, condemnable and utterly mischievous. “Such actions not only undermine the integrity of the force but also have far-reaching negative consequences for the nation and its people,” Adejobi advised.
