FUEL TANKER EXPLODES IN ONITSHA

A tanker laden with 33,000 litres of petrol with no registration number, has exploded at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday at Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra state.

This was disclosed by the state Sector Commander, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Command, however, said no casualty or injury was recorded in the explosion.

The tanker was said to have exploded due to electrical fault in the engine of the vehicle. This made the driver to raise an alarm and the neighbouring houses tried their best to put out the fire.

Fortunately, the fire service men, FRSC officials and the Policemen responded promptly and the fire was extinguished.

“Officers of FRSC are diverting traffic and cordoning the scene to avoid running into the carcass and the fire service vehicles,” Kumapayi said.
