Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) have been lauded by the people of the Niger Delta region for supporting agriculture through its Green River Project (GRP).
Commending the oil company through a farmer who is also an academic known as Dr. Victor Ajuru, Prof. Seth Accra Jaja, Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Otuoke and Senator Foster Ogola, the people of the oil region, said they see the development as “marvelous support” from Agip towards agriculture for farmers in the state.
Agip, through its technical support to farmers, has always shown its commitment to ensure the availability of sufficient food materials in the Niger Delta region, the trio said this respectively.
While speaking on behalf of other farmers, Dr. Ajuru, who emerged as the overall Farmer of the Year, craved the indulgence of the Niger Delta youths in agriculture, thereby urging them to antagonise the act of oil facilities destruction to get money.
“For the Nigerian youths I want them to copy an example from me. I am an academic; I teach in a University, so I should be contented to sit in the classroom and lecture but no my passion for farming has driven me into agriculture.
Agriculture is not necessarily a dirty a job, it is like the keynote speaker said the future of this country. We need to stop destroying oil facilities to seek for compensation. Let us find a way where Oil and gas can coexist with agriculture,” Ajuru said.
