NNPC DEPLOYS NEW TECHNOLOGY TO COMBAT PIPELINE VANDALISM

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), yesterday, said it would employ a new technology to tackle cases of pipeline vandalism across the country.

NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, disclosed that as part of measures to alleviate the incidents of pipeline vandalism, NNPC planned to make use of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)Technology.

He noted that HDD technology would make it difficult for the vandals to easily sabotage the pipelines.

Kyari denounced the activities of pipeline vandals who ignited parts of the corporation’s pipeline network in Abule Egba area of Lagos State recently, which led to the loss of lives and properties.

He said the incident in Lagos was perpetrated in an open arena, urging Nigerians to always report criminals who indulge in such activities to security agencies.

He said NNPC was cooperating with all security agencies across the country to prevent the occurrences of pipeline vandalism.
