The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bayelsa State Command, said it has arrested a total number of twenty-one suspects in three months over cases of illegal bunkering, oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the state.
Christiana Abiakam-Omanu, Commandant of NSCDC of the Bayelsa Command, who confirmed that some of the cases are still pending due to months of inactivity at the Federal High Court, said the command will secure convictions based on thorough investigation and concrete evidence.
She revealed this on Thursday during a courtesy call on her by the Federal Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalism (NUJ) led by the Chairman, Comrade Kola Oredipe.
Abiakam-Omanu said their successes despite many challenges will consolidate the achievements of the past leaders of the command.
She further commended Beyelsa State media practitioners, particularly members of the Federal Correspondent Chapel, for joining them in the crusade against irregularities as core mandates of the command.
She urged the media organisations to foster more collaboration with them in order to curb oil theft and illegal bunkering in the state.
