NUPENG, PENGASSAN URGE FG TO FAST TRACK PIB APPROVAL
The federal government has been urged by the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to fast track the final executive assent on the entire Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
The bill, according to the oil workers, would stop unnecessary political interference in the oil and gas industry when passed into law.
They noted that the bill would separate the policy maker from the regulator and from the commercial institutions in terms of responsibilities. It also enhances accountability, strengthens governance and transparency, tackle inefficiency, maladministration, corruption and secrecy accordingly.
The unions, in a joint statement, said it is essential to uphold these, while appraising the federal government on its current milestone with the flag-off and official commencement of crude oil search in the Kolmani Well River-II, near Barambu, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
They said the feat achieved showed government’s resolve and commitment to grow Nigeria’s economy, boost capacity and provide energy sufficiency as well as strengthen the country’s oil and gas industry.
