Not fewer than five TSL Total truck drivers and others sustained varying degree of injuries from violent attack lunched on them by the PTD executives at NNPC Makurdi, state.

The drivers who are also members of PTD left Total depot in Lagos to NNPC Makurdi to complete the process for PEF (Petroleum Equality Fund) for the petrol loaded before heading to the designated Total stations across the state.

According to our source, the altercation resulted while the drivers refused to pay what they called unjustified levy tagged “Obituary fee” which is meant to finance the funeral ceremony for one of the Makurdi’s executive members who was lost in January this year.

Based on phone conversation with one of the drivers who spoke on condition of anonymity, he said they were severally tortured to the point blood-letting by locking them up in the toilet for hours, cruelly beating and eventual hitting of one of the driver’s head with heavy stone.

He added that all the fees expected of them were paid except that of the obituary, he thereof bitterly decried why such punitive and violent action could melted on them.

However, all effort to get through to the other party, the NNPC Makurdi PTD executive and the National PRO of the body were not successful as at the time of this report.

The PTD chairman of Total unit who was contacted told us that he is hoping to get the full detail of the ugly incident tomorrow, 6th June, 2018.

Meanwhile, the worries of the majority who felt concerned remain that: under what condition would such be justified if executive who are constituted to take care of members’ welfare violate them? What would the national body of union would put up as meditative and correctional steps to rights the wrong done to the drivers and to forestall recurrence of same?

Getting in touch with the National PRO PTD NUPENG, Comrade Adebayo Atanda later today, he confirmed that PTD NUPENG is aware of this case. “According to the executives concerned, the drivers went violent first by beating the Deputy Chairman and this is a different version from that of the drivers involved. Since nobody was there and there is counter-accusation, they have been invited to PTD NUPENG National Headquarters in Abuja for questioning tomorrow June 6th, 2018.” He concluded.
