Jaji Abdulganiyu, the Controller General (CG) of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), has expressed heartfelt displeasure over the tragic petrol tanker fire that occurred on the night of Tuesday, 15th October 2024, in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The incident, caused by a fuel tanker explosion, claimed over 100 lives and left many others severely injured.

In a sorrowful message, the Controller General extended his condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Majiya, and the entire Jigawa State. He prayed for the swift recovery of those injured and for the repose of the souls of the deceased.

The CG said “We stand with the people of Jigawa in this moment of grief and extend our deepest sympathies to the families affected by this tragic event. May the departed rest in peace, and may those injured receive the best possible care for their recovery.”

He emphasized the importance of fire safety and warned the public about the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen tankers, a common but highly dangerous practice.

Albulganiyu enlightened “The public must be fully aware that fuel from fallen tankers poses serious hazards, including fire outbreaks and explosions. We urge everyone to stay clear of such incidents and to report them to the relevant authorities immediately.”

The Federal Fire Service of Nigeria stands in solidarity with the people of Jigawa State during this difficult time. We urge all those affected to remain calm and resilient, and we assure the public that the Service will provide necessary support within its capacity.

The Federal Fire Service assured it “remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property.”

The Controller General reassured the public that the Service is prepared to respond to emergencies and will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to prevent future tragedies.
